We are currently publishing our series of sustainability blogs to help clients consider the best options for their building project; helping to ensure they have the right tools to make responsible choices regarding the carbon footprint of their project and to inform them of the sustainable options available.

It is also important for us as a business to be aware of, and transparent about, our carbon footprint; to measure the emissions we create on a day to day basis, analyse the sources of our emissions, try to reduce our carbon footprint, and where this is not possible to offset.

We have previously measured our carbon and got a better picture of our impact and how we can improve. As well as focussing on how we can improve we have offset our carbon footprint with planting in the Amazon basin and reforestation of the Sahara Desert as a positive by product. We are now undertaking an annual report of our Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. For 2024 our carbon emissions were estimated at 78.23 tonnes of CO2e.

This can be broken down into:

  • Scope 1 emissions: 22.12 tonnes
  • Scope 2 emissions: 6.71 tonnes
  • Scope 3 emissions: 49.41 tonnes

Scope 1 emissions relates to direct emissions from vehicles etc that we own; scope 2 emissions are indirect from energy we buy, such as to run boilers; scope 3 emissions covers the rest of the emissions created from the running of our business down the value chain, this includes emissions from suppliers we buy from and commuting to our offices. The third accounts for more than half of our emissions, meaning we need to focus on who we use within our supply chain and how we can improve our buying habits.

The first step to reducing emissions is to measure them. Now that this has been done a couple of times and we are getting a better picture of our carbon bubble, we will be analysing the data to see where we can reduce our footprint, empowering individuals to take steps that will have an impact, and also offsetting the carbon we have produced already. Our motto is that carbon should be considered in all the decisions we make.

We will publish more on this shortly.
