Following on from Jonathan Rhind’s recent blog on the diversity of cob it just so happened that Julian Clayton visited Oman in the Middle East last week where he found a superb example of a cob building in the Rustaq Fort in Northern Oman.

As you can see from the photographs this is a magnificent example of cob and cob block walling that has stood the test of time having been built in the early 18th Century. The geometric shapes of the crenellation and curved ramparts provide a great architectural image set against the back drop of the foothills of the Akhdar Mountains.
