Architect

We are looking for an experienced Architect to join our friendly team in Taunton, Somerset. Applicants must have conservation experience with at least 5 years in practice and an ability to contribute to practice management. We are looking for someone to get involved in the joint running of a busy office and managing the team, as well as running jobs, and have a demonstrable ability to consistently win new work.

We have a wide-ranging jobs list and are looking for someone who will enjoy working on a variety of projects from village church conservation to planning permission on a contentious site, repair/extensions to historic houses and country estates, or designs for new build property in the countryside.

Architectural Technologist

We are seeking experienced Architectural Technologists to join our expanding team working on interesting historic building projects.

We have opportunities available in both the Barnstaple, North Devon office and Taunton, Somerset office, working with a friendly and experienced team.

The ideal candidates will be/have:

  • CAD proficient, ideally Vectorworks
  • Self-motivated, imaginative and able to prioritise and manage schedules
  • A knowledge of planning and building regulations useful
  • An interest in conservation and historic buildings

Part 2 Architectural Assistant

With an ever increasing workload we are looking for Part II Architectural Assistants to join our team. There are opportunities in our Devon and Somerset offices.

Our current jobs list is varied and includes masterplanning of exciting large-scale projects as well as church repairs, barn conversions, country estate extensions, and hospitality projects for restaurants, hotels and contemporary new builds and extensions.

The role will involve:

  • Incorporating contemporary designs and considering the reuse of space in historic buildings
  • Design ideas for contentious sites
  • Preparation of technical drawings, reports and visualisations
  • Site visits, overseeing construction work, liaising with clients, contractors etc to take projects to completion
  • Working with the team as well as taking on responsibility and managing projects.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Clarity in communication
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Good technical skills
  • Experience of technical packages such as Vectorworks, Microsoft Office
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Enthusiasm for historic buildings, their conservation and reuse
  • Ability to design for constrained sites

Part 1 Architectural Assistant

We are looking for talented individuals to join our expanding team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to work well within the team
  • The ability to work under direction as well as under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of conservation and historic buildings
  • Ideas for contemporary design in the reuse of spaces
  • Good technical knowledge

Candidates will have a particular interest in conservation and historic houses.

Our current workload is an exciting mix of conservation and new build including country houses and estates, and barn conversions.

We have opportunities in Taunton, Somerset and Shirwell near Barnstaple in North Devon. 

You will be expected to demonstrate experience in design and construction and clarity in communication and presentation is crucial.

Administrator

We are looking for an administrator to support a busy Architecture practice.

The role would be based in the Taunton office, and will be a job share position covering Mondays and Tuesdays plus additional days to cover holidays. Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • To be primary point of contact for callers/visitors to office.
  • Preparation of facilities prior to meetings.
  • To provide typing support to staff.
  • Audio typing.
  • Correcting spelling and grammar of other employee’s written work. Proof reading
  • Maintaining office procedures for hard copy filing, digital filing, and e-mail protocols.
  • Filing project information
  • Assisting in organizing the product library.
  • Producing information packs for new jobs.
  • Assisting in the production of reports and planning submissions including the printing/folding/binding of documents as required.
  • Shredding of sensitive documents. Recycling of paper.
  • Monitoring adequate levels of office supplies.
  • The organisation of the stock room.
  • Assist staff in the management of their diaries.
  • Ensure the post is dispatched at the end of the day.
  • Raise the invoices/statements and monitor debtors.
  • Monitor staff input on Timeport on a monthly basis.
  • Carry out project analysis reports/non-billable hour reports.
  • Maintain Petty Cash.

As this is a supporting role, the ideal candidate will need to be able to adapt to the different working styles of the Directors and technical staff. They will also be able to work quickly, accurately and efficiently; and to prioritise workload. We are looking for a team player to fit into a relaxed friendly office.
