Another award win for the Farmers Arms
— 14 May 2020
‘The Farmers Arms in Devon wins big for its stunning design’ The headline quote from the CAMRA pub design awards press release says it all.
The Campaign for Real Ale have always championed great pubs and it is fantastic that The Farmers Arms has won one of CAMRA’s prestigious Pub Design Awards.
The awards celebrate exceptional pubs nationwide, and the Farmers Arms was joint winner of the Refurbishment Award which is held in conjunction with Historic England. The award recognises the extensive conservation work which was undertaken at The Farmers Arms. Retaining the unique character of the historic building while ensuring additions were sympathetic and in a simple, contemporary vernacular style.
The precise Corten steel roof, reminiscent of the rusty corrugated iron roofs of Devon village farmyards coupled with the beautiful soft thatch of the historic original pub has become a familiar feature of the local streetscape. Up until the restrictions of the last couple of months, it had once again become a central hub in the heart of the village for locals and visitors alike to come together and enjoy.
For The Farmers Arms to be recognised once again with another award win is testament to the extent of the conservation work undertaken, and the hard work the whole team put into the project.
If you are considering a conservation project, please get in touch for a chat with one of our Architects who will be happy to discuss your ideas and how we can take it forward.
