Summerhouse
Our client brief was for a two-bedroom summerhouse in the grounds of their grade II Regency villa, with kitchen, dining, sitting, WC/changing and first floor office with views over the garden and swimming pool, spa, with glasshouse and meandering pathway in a Piet Oudolf inspired planted garden.
The clayey ground type and the open-plan form of the building indicated a steel frame on a concrete ring beam and piled foundations with masonry walls and oak external boarding, the deep overhangs to the ‘swept’ eaves give good shade and protection in sunshine.
Bespoke construction details included:
- Curved internal staircase
- Lutyens / Frank Lloyd Wright style slate roof
- Copper ridges, hips and guttering
- Oak weatherboarded external walls
- Surface water rapid drainage system
- Sunken fire pit
