St Nectan's Church, Stoke, Hartland
The Grade I listed St Nectan’s Church is a prominent landmark on the North Devon coast. The tower, reputedly the tallest in Devon, has historically been used for navigation around the treacherous coastland.
Considered one of the finest churches in Devon, the current church dates from the 14th Century – restored in the 19th and 20th Centuries – with evidence of a church on the site from c.1050. The imposing interior includes a fine 15th Century rood screen across the whole width of the church with colour and 19th C parclose screens, and an extensive collection of fine carved benches.
Jonathan Rhind Architects have been church architects for St Nectan’s for over 15 years and have assisted the PCC with various projects including conservation repairs, reordering and Quinquennial inspections.
